BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Founded in 2004, The
World Buddhist Sangha Youth's main objective is to provide an avenue for young Buddhist monks, nuns and lay Buddhist youth
who heed the advice of the Noble Teacher, the Buddha to carry out Dhammaduta work, meet, exchange ideas and thoughts, share
their experiences and remain focused to spreading the Noble Truth, peace and non-violence.
BACKGROUND
All Buddhist Sangha are living continuation of the wisdom of the Buddha
Shakyamuni; their life long professional goals are to establish and maintain good order in the Buddhadharma and to help other beings.
Therefore, they should show mediating excellence in their wisdom, be pure and strict in their monastic practices, and
be compassionate and magnanimous in their love and kindness to other sentient beings. Whereas all Buddha Sangha take great
vows before the Buddha, they need the right kind of education, training and guidance when it comes to putting their vows into
practice.
The objectives of most Buddhist organizations today are to popularize Buddhism or engage in charitable
work or academic exchanges. Very few involve themselves with the training and education of Buddhist Sangha youth. For this
reason, revered monks from the southern, northern, and Tibetan traditions met in February 2004 at Katmandu, NEPAL during the
ordination of four young monks, and called for the establishment of an organization with the main objective to train
and educate Buddhist Sangha youth. The result of such meeting was the establishment of the World Buddhist Sangha Youth (“WBSY”),
which resolved to hold its first Executive Board meeting in Thailand in May.
The first Executive Board meeting
was held at wat Sanghathan Nonthaburi, Thailand from 17 - 20 May, 2004 where important issues were discussed and the Constitution
of the World Buddhist Sangha youth was drafted. Sixty-two representatives from 16 member states took part in the meeting,
which resolved to hold its first General Conference in Bodh Gaya, a conference hitherto was to be of the grandest global scale
among all Buddhists. During the four-day conference, more than 2000 Sangha members and lay Buddhists participated. WBSY is
an international Buddhist organization registered with the United Nations with its headquarters in Taipei, Taiwan.
Therefore, WBSY was formally established in December 2004 in Bodh Gaya, India during which member representatives from the
main Buddhist schools of thought, Avatamsaka (Huayen), Theravada, Mahayana, Tantrayana (Shingon), Vajrayana, and Ch’an
(Zen), from 40 countries participated. The First WBSY General President was Ch’an Master Ven. Lian Hai, who ran his
operations from the Joint Office of Buddhists (JOOB). The main objective of such a body is to create a global network among
the Sangha youth and the world. This objective is to provide an avenue for young Buddhist monks, nuns and lay Buddhist
youth who heed the advice of the Noble Teacher, the Buddha to carry out Dhammaduta work, meet, exchange ideas and thoughts,
share their experiences and remain focused to spreading the Noble Truth, peace and non-violence.
All Buddhist thoughts,
no matter they be of the southern, northern, or Tibetan tradition, can find its origin in the Buddha Shakyamuni. The core
of Buddhist teachings is to eliminate blind faith and therefore can take different forms for different people. Its ultimate
purpose is to deliver all sentient beings from the sea of suffering and enlighten them to their original undefiled state with
compassion and wisdom. WBSY shall heed this advice. As well it shall take as its mission to engage positively in the
training and education of Buddhist Sangha youth, in order to extend the life of Buddhist wisdom, prosper Buddhadharma,
and strengthen exchange among world Buddhist Sangha youth.
The 1st General Conference was held at Bodh
Gaya, India 2004. The
2nd General Conference was held at Malakka, Malaysia
2005. The 3rd General Conference was held at Tholangamuwa
& Madatugama,
Sri Lanka 2006. The

Patuntani, Thailand
2007. The 5th General Conference was held at Hobart
(Tasmania, Australia)

WORLD BUDDHIST SANGHA YOUTH SONG 【Together We Are One
】
Here we are, sharing our lives We made it through the good and bad
times And still we stand with hope in our hearts No matter what, we will play our part And now we've come so
far, one chance to touch a star Go higher and higher
Find your guiding inspiration, In a place where
dreams are made With a lifetime's preparation, it's no time to be afraid Put our differences behind us, while
we shine like the sun See what we've all become, together we are one
Deep inside your heart and soul You've worked so hard, to reach your goal With every step, with every breath You gave it all, till there was
nothing left Seek out the strength to win, no thoughts of giving in Go higher and higher
Find your
guiding inspiration In a place where dreams are made With a lifetime's preparation It's no time to be afraid
Put our differences behind us While we shine like the sun See what we've all become Together we are
one.

WBSY INTRODUCTION The WBSY’s main objective is to provide an avenue for young Buddhist monks,
nuns and lay buddhist youth who heed the advice of the Noble Teacher, the Buddha to carry out Dhammaduta work, meet, exchange
ideas and thoughts, share their experiences and remain focused to spreading the Noble Truth. The essence of world peace in
this modern world has been the point of discussion in many world seminars and conventions. There is no denying that the prime
essence of world peace is religious unity and harmony.
Mankind has been given the choice to believe and follow a religion or way of life.
And as long as a person is born and has a mind of his own, there is no one who has the right to take that choice away. As
mankind gets wiser, there can never be a time when the whole world will come to agree on the superiority of one particular
religion . Even within the same religion , there are various school of thought and belief. There solution than to provide
a common platform to deliberate and discuss on conflicting issues intelligently and wisely. At the end of the day, regardless
of religious belief or through, each and everyone will have to compromise by practicing patience tolerance and understanding
to have a peaceful life for all, here and now.
In the Buddhist community , there is no difference. There are various schools of
thought or denominations. They are not different groups but merely various group practicing and following the Teachings of
the Buddha, i.e. the ultimate goal of Nibbana, the end of suffering.
The
WBSY’s role is to provide an opportunity for young monks and nuns and lay buddhist youth from the various traditions
the opportunity to come together. This is a perfect example of the Buddhist spirit of all for one and one for all. The theme
of the second General Conference this year; Unity and Religious harmony’ is most apt considering the senseless killing
and suffering inflicted on humans by humans in the name of religion. Not only are they caused by people of different religions
but by people of the same religion.
OBJECTIVES
and AIMS
The
Objectives and aims are: 1. to develop Buddhist
Youth organizations and exchange of Buddhist Sangha Youth worldwide, 2. to assist Buddhist Sangha Youth
to carry out Dhammaduta youth activities throughout the world, 3. to enhance harmony and relationship
among the Sangha youth, and lay buddhist youth of different traditions, 4. to protect the Buddhist Sangha
youth and lay buddhist youth of the world from all forms of obstacles they might have to face, 5.
to develop the Buddhist Sangha youth and lay buddhist youth through education and welfare, 6.
to develop Buddhayana in the world without discriminating between Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana or other denominations /
traditions and to encourage unity in the world Buddhist Sangha youth, 7. to protect and
develop the identifying features of each Buddhist monastic denomination / tradition, 8. to bring the
world Buddhist Sangha youth and lay buddhist youth members together annually to discuss support for underdeveloped
countries, to determine the matters of priority and to take action to support those countries. Towards these goals, the World
Buddhist Sangha Youth will have the opportunity to: 1. deepen the relationship between
monastic youth individuals and the Buddhist youth groups from different countries, 2. publicize
useful news concerning international monastic Sangha youth of Buddhist non – profit organizations
amongst the members. 3. promote the World Buddhist Sangha Youth and lay buddhist youth to the World

240-DAY CIRCUMSCRIBED RECITATION OF THE AVATAMSAKA SUTRA FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE 2010 HUAYEN SANGHA-DANA
AND 7TH WBSY GENERAL CONFERENCE

All members of the Da Huayen Monastery and the Huayen World Community shall
commence a 240-circumscribed practice to pray for the success of the 2010 Huayen Sangha-Dana and the 7th WBSY General
Conference. If you wish to join us in this solemn pledge, please use the Dharma program below:
I. VOWS
Compassionate and Great Buddha! I (_________), for the purpose of perfecting Buddhahood and delivering all living beings and praying for
the success of the 2010 Huayen Sangha-Dana and the 7th WBSY General Conference, now vow to engage in a 240-day circumscribed
practice from 1 December 2009 to 28 July 2010, during which I will recite one chapter consecutively of the 80-fascicle
Avatamsaka Sutra each day. I earnestly pray to all Buddhas of the ten directions for protection, to the Bodhisattvas of the
past, present, and future for acceptance, and to our patriarchs for blessings. (One prostration)
II. REPENTANCE
I (_________), from
eons without beginning in the past, I have created all kinds of measureless and boundless evil karma with my body, speech,
and mind, because of greed, hatred, and delusion. If that karma had a substance and form, all of empty space could not contain
it. I now completely purify these three karmas, and before the assemblies of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, throughout the
Dharma Realm in lands as many as fine motes of dust, I sincerely repent and reform my offences and vow never to create them
again. I will always dwell in all merit and virtue of the pure precepts until I perfect Buddhahood. My repentance and reform
will only end when all living beings are delivered in thought after thought without cease, my three karmas never weary of
such deeds. (One prostration)
III. AVATAMSAKA SUTRA
RECITATION
Namo Upadhyaya Shakyamuni Buddha (Three invocations, three prostrations.)
(Contemplate gradually its meaning as you recite the following stanza.) The unsurpassed, profound, and wonderful Dharma Is difficult to encounter in hundreds of millions of eons. I now see and hear it, receive and uphold it, And I
vow to fathom the Tathagata's true meaning. (Contemplation vow: As you open the Avatamsaka Sutra, contemplate the Dharma
Wheel always turns, that all the living beings who hear the Dharma attain Bodhi.)
IV. DEDICATION OF MERIT
May the merit and virtue accrued
from this work Help devas, dragons and Dharma protectors attain Buddhahood early. May all great good and wise advisors
who preach the Huayen tradition and spread its teachings long remain in the world to turn the Great Dharma Wheel. May
all living beings in the Dharma Realm generate supreme Bodhi-mind and attain Thusness and Ultimate Reality. May the Huayen
Dharma prosper and flourish, the Right Buddhadharma long remain in the world! May peace be on earth, may there be social
stability, may the winds be gentle and the rain be subdued, and may all countries prosper and their people be at
ease! May the 2010 Huayen Sangha-Dana and the 7th WBSY General Conference be successful. "The supreme, endless
blessings from Samantabhadra's conduct I now universally transfer to all. May every living being, drowning and adrift, Soon return to the Land of Limitless Light!" Namo Universal Worthy King Bodhisattva Mahasattva! (Three invocations,
three prostrations)
